ch 5, sl st to first to form ring

rnd 1:ch3(counts as first dc) 11 dc in ring-12 sts

rnd 2: ch5, sc in next dc, ch2,* dc in next dc, ch2, sc in next dc, ch2;rep from * 4 times, slst last ch 2 to 3rd ch of ch5

rnd 3;ch1, sc in same st as join, ch7, *sc in next dc, ch7. rep from *4 times-6 loops made;end w/slst to first sc

rnd 4:ch1, in each loop around make 1 sc, 1hdc, 7dc, 1hdc, 1sc. sl st to first sc

rnd 5:ch1, sc in same st, *sc in each of next 10 sts, ch 18, sc in next st, rep from * 4 times, slst last ch18 to first sc

rnd 6:slst in each of next 2 sts, ch1, sc in next st, ch6, skip 4, sc in next st, in next loop (loop is ch18 of prev rnd) make 7dc, ch5, 7dc, ch5, 7dc, ch5, 7dc, *skip 2 sts in next section, sc in next st, ch6, sk 4 sts, sc in next st, in next loop make 7dc, ch5, 7dc, ch5, 7dc, ch5, 7dc, rep from * 4 times. slst last dc to first sc. fasten off. this makes half the flake. rep for second half

Dye 2 (motif patterns above) rounds for each flake in colors of your choice. cr cotton takes dye quickly and thoroughly so simply dip rounds into hot dye for a min or two, then remove and rinse. dry rounds; press, using hot iron sew motifs tog into completed ornament by placing one motif atop another, alighing loops and placing long lps at top and bottom. sew pieces tog by stitching down the center (top to bottom) and around the inside of 2 opposite loops to stiffen ornaments, dissolve 2 TB starch in 1/4 c cold water;add 1 3/4 c boiling water. saturate ornament;squeeze our excess starch. lay ornament flat on a board covered w/waxed paper. stretch and pin points. when ornaments are dry, peel sides of flake apart and press again w/hot iron to form 4 sided flake
